Two Glories

Joel Hemphill

The Glory of God

“Thus saith the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker. I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded…. and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me. Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else” (Isaiah 45:11-12, 21-22).

“I am the Lord: that is my name; and my glory will I not give to another” (Isaiah 42:8).

“I will not give my glory unto another” (Isaiah 48:11).

“And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth… Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgement is come: and worship him that made heaven, and the earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters” (Revelation 14:6-7).

Jesus’ Glory

“….and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father” (John 1:14).

“The Son of Man…shall come in his own glory” [Jesus speaking] (Luke 9:26).

“The Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory” [Jesus speaking] (Matt. 19:28).

“Father…the glory which thou gavest me…that they may behold my glory which thou hast given me” [Jesus speaking] (John 17:21, 22, 24).

[Christ] “verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God” (I Peter 1:20-21).
