The Trinitarian Controversy Part 2 - The Fifth Century

Sean Finnegan

Sean Finnegan continues his expose regarding the development of the Trinity. This time he takes up the evolution of Trinitarianism in the 5th Century.  In this paper Sean touches on such figures as John Chrysostom, Cyril of Alexandria, Nestorius and Empress Pulcheria. He also gives us an overview of the Councils of Ephesus (431 CE) and Chalcedon (451 CE). This is great material and very useful as a study aid.  Also see Sean’s Part 1 of this study: The Trinitarian Controversy Part 1 – The 4th Century.

A Summary of Seven Church Councils

Sean Finnegan

Sean Finnegan summarizes seven post-biblical church councils which were critical in the development and evolution of the Doctrine of the Trinity. The Councils considered are: Nicea I and II, Constantinople I, II and III, Ephesus and Chalcedon. Also see Sean’s “The Trinitarian Controversy” Parts 1 (February 2018) and 2 (immediately above).
