Who is this one? Prophets spoke of him centuries before his birth. Announced by the angel Gabriel, he was miraculously born of a virgin. Literally, this man was the son of God. He was tempted, yet did not sin. No one ever spoke the word of God as he did. He worked wonderful miracles by the power of his Father. When he was crucified, darkness came over the land. God raised him from the dead and set him at his own right hand in heaven.
He was so loved by God that his death was accepted as a sacrifice for the sins of all who will trust in him. He lives today and is our mediator, our intercessor, our brother and our friend. Many of his disciples gave their lives in defense of his teachings. This man truly is the Christ, the son of the living God.
How important is it to know him? Let us say with the Apostle Paul:
I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ (Philippians 3:8 NIV).
